Anyone thinking of standing as a candidate in either the Windsor or Maidenhead constituencies in the general election is urged to get in touch with the Royal Borough's elections team as soon as possible.
The advice has come in from acting returning officer Ian Trenholm, who said the earlier candidates make contact the better so that they can be guided on electoral law and procedures.
Mr Trenholm said: "I realise that many candidates will already be seasoned politicians, backed by experienced teams. However, there will be others who are new to the electoral system and will benefit from an early introduction to the policies and procedure that govern the way things are run.
"My overall approach is to try and provide early briefing and informal advice to candidates and their teams to avoid problems later. It is however important to stress that the election process is governed by law that is very specific about things such as timetables - and it is key that potential candidates understand their responsibilities in meeting deadlines and carrying out specific actions."
Mr Trenholm recommended that would-be candidates should register their interest as soon as possible with the council's electoral administrator, Wendy Allum, on 01628 685717 or email elections@rbwm.gov.uk
He added: "Informally registering interest does not commit people to stand but it does enable us to keep them informed of deadlines, briefings and other news."
