Mayor visits Centrica to support apprenticeship scheme

The Mayor of the Royal Borough, Cllr Catherine Bursnall, has visited the Windsor head office of Centrica in support of the work of the National Apprenticeship Service. She was accompanied by the Royal Borough's chief executive, Ian Trenholm.

The visit, on Monday 14 January, formed part of Royal Borough's efforts to highlight apprenticeships opportunities available to local employers and young people and to act as a facilitator in getting the groups together.

Cllr Bursnall said: "The council supports the apprenticeship scheme, is listening to young people and employers and looking for ways to increase participation.

"Centrica is already doing a great job in taking on local young people as apprentices and hopefully this initiative will raise awareness to other local employers of the benefits of apprenticeships to themselves and young people."

British Gas, a Centrica subsidiary, is creating 530 new apprenticeships nationwide this year.

Phil Bentley, Managing Director of British Gas, said: "Our people and their skills are fundamental to the great service we give our customers - and the overall success of British Gas. This is why we invest over £25m each year in training and development. At our six award-winning British Gas Energy Academies we train more than 1,000 gas engineers, smart meter installers, insulation fitters, solar panel installers and energy experts every year."
