Olympics traffic and parking plans go on display

The Royal Borough is urging local residents and businesses to study plans for traffic and parking during the Olympic and Paralympic events at Eton Dorney this summer.

LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games) is organising a community engagement exercise to raise awareness about the arrangements so far and are setting up three drop-in sessions which will give everyone the opportunity to ask questions, get more information and make comments.

The drop-in sessions are on:
• Thursday 2 February - Windsor Racecourse (4pm-8pm)
• Friday 3 February - Windsor Racecourse (4pm-8pm)
• Saturday 4 February - Sainsbury's, Taplow (10am-2pm).

More than 16,000 information leaflets are being delivered in the Royal Borough, Bucks and Slough areas, featuring maps of the traffic and parking arrangements along with a list of questions and answers to provide additional information.

Cllr Simon Dudley, cabinet lead member for the 2012 Games, said: "We are delighted that the Games will be right on our doorstep and we expect the borough to benefit from being recognised as an official host authority.

"However, realistically there will be disruption for residents and businesses in the Eton Dorney area and for people using our roads and public transport networks. This is why the council has been working closely with LOCOG to ensure that local needs are not forgotten and that people will be able to carry on as far as possible with their normal daily routines."

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, said it was imperative that residents and local businesses view the plans.

He said: "The plans are approaching their final stages and we want to see local people out in force at the drop-in sessions to make sure they ask questions and make comments if they wish. In this way we can ensure that the Royal Borough's needs continue to be considered by LOCOG."

Residents and businesses can put forward their views by:
• email: parkingenquiry@london2012.com
• post: Freepost Traffic and Parking Enquiry
• telephone: 0800 0111 300
The closing date is Friday 10 February 2012.

Later this month - on Thursday 26 January - cabinet will be considering a report on the Eton Dorney traffic and parking management plan which will focus on the council's work to minimise disruption to the local community.
