Former Charters headteacher becomes a Dame in New Year honours

The Royal Borough is pleased to learn of the honour Her Majesty The Queen has bestowed on colleague Marcia Twelftree, who has been awarded a DBE in the New Year honours.

As headteacher of Charters School, Sunningdale, Dame Marcia was a driving force behind its growth and development, steering it to special college status and achieving its 'outstanding' Ofsted rating.

Cllr Eileen Quick, lead member for children services, said everyone in the borough's education community was delighted by the news.

She said: "During her years as headteacher at Charters Marcia was passionate about ensuring her students were given every opportunity to achieve and her contribution to education in the borough has left a lasting and positive legacy. We send her our warmest congratulations on this well-deserved honour."

Dame Marcia still retains her close links with the borough by managing the team of external secondary headteacher advisors who promote secondary school improvement.
