Wessex Primary School pupils are set to expand their green credentials when they become the latest borough school to sign up to Adopt-a-Street at 2pm on Wednesday 11 May.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Asghar Majeed will officially launch the scheme to adopt St Adrian's Close, Maidenhead, after which there will be a community clean-up involving community wardens, streetcare officers and local people.
The popular Adopt-a-Street scheme encourages residents to volunteer to care for their communities and environment by collecting litter from their local streets and areas. It complements the Council's regular cleaning schedule.
Cllr Majeed said: "Adopt-a-Street encourages a real sense of civic pride, encouraging people to do their bit and make a difference.
"I would like to thank Wessex Primary for coming on board. The children and staff have really embraced all things 'green' and have many environmental schemes in place. I am delighted they are building on this strong foundation and sharing their good work with the local community."
Harjit Hunjan, Community and Business Partnerships Manager, said: "It is so important that we work with children to educate them about the importance of being responsible citizens who really care about their local area and ensure it remains pleasant and free of litter and graffiti for everyone to enjoy. I am sure the children can teach adults a thing or two and are setting a very good example."
Brian Martin, Community Safety Manager, said: "The community wardens are very much at the heart of their local community and I am pleased that that they have got another Adopt-a-Street scheme off the ground. They are providing further support to the community and continuing to make the borough cleaner, greener and safer for all."
Wessex Primary joins 1st South Ascot Guides, Cliveden View Youth Project and St Edmund Campion, St Edward's Royal Free Ecumenical, Larchfield Primary and Dedworth Green First schools in the successful Adopt-a-Street scheme.
