Royal Borough community wardens are once again inviting residents to bag up litter as part of a community clean-up at York Stream, Maidenhead, on Wednesday 14 December.
Volunteers are encouraged to join the community wardens, community safety team, borough streetcare officers, police officers and young offenders for the start of the clean-up at 2pm at York Stream, behind Maidenhead Library in St Ives Road.
This latest clean-up was proposed by the Mayor, Cllr Asghar Majeed, who said: "York Stream is enjoyed by residents and benefits from a wide variety of wildlife.
"It seemed a great idea to have a clean-up here and give the area an early Christmas present for all to enjoy."
Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member with responsibility for community safety, said: "The area is popular and generally clean and tidy. It is disappointing that a minority of people feel they can use the stream as a litter bin. Community wardens will not hesitate to issue fixed penalty notices to people who do not pick up their litter.
"The council has a zero tolerance approach to litter and anti-social behaviour. Days such as this are great - but the effort must be sustained throughout the year. Community wardens work with their local communities all year round to instill pride in their areas and I am pleased that once again they are involved in a clean-up. We hope that by having a cleaner community this will help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour."
