St Edmund Campion - latest Maidenhead school

St Edmund Campion Catholic Primary becomes the latest school in Maidenhead to Adopt-a-Street on Wednesday 1 December.

At 11am, Deputy Mayor Cllr Asghar Majeed will officially launch the scheme to adopt Altwood Road, Maidenhead.

Adopt-a-Street encourages residents to volunteer to care for their communities and local environment by collecting litter from their local streets and areas and complements the council's regular cleaning schedule.

Cllr Christine Bateson, lead member for community partnerships, said: "Adopt-a-Street encourages a real sense of civic pride - people wanting to do their bit and make a difference to their local area. Feedback continues to be positive from all members of the community.

"I would like to thank St Edmund Campion for coming on board, adding to the list of schools signed up to keeping their areas clean and tidy."

Cllr Colin Rayner, lead member for highways and streetcare, said: "When I've been lucky enough to attend other launches with schools, it is clear the children are really enthusiastic and look great in their mini Adopt-a-Street kit.

"It is so important that we work with children to educate them about the importance of being responsible citizens who really care about their local area and ensure it remains pleasant and free of litter and graffiti for everyone to enjoy, now and in the future.

"We must be very proud of our junior and infant schools that make so much effort to keep their area clean and tidy. I am very impressed with the high standard and quality of education when I visit our junior schools - the children are well behaved and schools are tidy.

"The community wardens are very much at the heart of their local community and the recent increase in their responsibilities including issuing fixed penalty notices and further enhanced working with Thames Valley Police means we are providing further support to the community and continuing to make the borough cleaner, greener and safer for all."

St Edmund Campion joins the 1st South Ascot Guides, Cliveden View Youth Project, St Edward's Royal Free Ecumenical, Larchfield Primary and Dedworth Green First Schools in the successful Adopt-a-Street scheme.
