Return to Sport - back for second helpings

There's a tasty new "dish" on the menu of this month's Return to Sport in RBWM initiative - a focus on healthy eating.

Following the success of the borough's first Return to Sport weeks earlier this year, the sports development team is expanding its popular "menu" of sporting choices to include two Love Food roadshows during the week-long initiative from Saturday 19 November to Sunday 27 November.

Designed to encourage adults of all ages to take part in sport and join their local clubs, Return to Sport in RBWM will see sports clubs and local providers across the borough opening their doors to provide FREE taster sessions for adults in a variety of sports from angling, fencing and Bollywood dancing to climbing, basketball and cycling.

The sessions - funded through the Berkshire 2012 Legacy Fund - will be open to anyone who wants to try a sport for the first time, to return to a sport they have played in the past - or just to enjoy the chance to make new friends through sport.

The two Love Food roadshows will be held on:
• Monday 21 November at Woodlands Park Village Centre, Woodlands Park, Maidenhead, from 2 to 4pm
• Wednesday 23 November at Windsor Leisure Centre from 12noon to 2pm.

They will feature cookery demonstrations highlighting the skills needed to prepare and cook food using fresh ingredients as well as advice and hints from a public health dietician on cooking for one, lowering the risks of heart disease and encouraging bone health.

Cllr Simon Dudley, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "With the Olympics getting ever closer there is a huge focus on sport and sporting activities and this is a great opportunity to get into the spirit of the games and hopefully develop a lasting enthusiasm for sport.

"By introducing the Love Food roadshows this time we are highlighting the importance of healthy eating in complementing a more active lifestyle and hopefully achieving better general health and a feeling of well-being."
