Borough recognised for putting families first

The Royal Borough is providing top quality information to parents and carers about services available to them - it's official!

The borough's Family Information Service will be presented with the coveted Families First Quality Award at a special ceremony on Friday 4 November in the Town Hall, Maidenhead at 1pm.

The award - from the National Association of Family Information Services (NAFIS) - recognises the high quality of the information available to families in the borough about services which might otherwise be unknown or inaccessible to them.

Cllr Eileen Quick, cabinet member for children's services, who will present the award on Friday, said this week: "This is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved in the Family Information Service.

"It is vital that we provide our parents and carers with as much accurate and accessible information as possible to help them make informed choices about all sorts of issues relating to the care, health, education and recreational activities of their children.

"It is wonderful to get such public acknowledgement that we are indeed doing just this!

"I am delighted and would like to congratulate everyone involved - keep up the good work!"

Anand Shukla, Chief Executive of the Daycare Trust which represents the Family Information Service in government said: "Meeting the standards of this challenging award shows that Windsor and Maidenhead is providing a high quality service and is meeting the Information Duty (Section 12) of the Childcare Act in full.

"Achieving the Families First award is a very significant achievement."

The Family Information Service is based on the Ellington school site in Maidenhead, and is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
