Visitors to Kidwells Park in Maidenhead are this week starting to enjoy its latest attraction - the soothing sound of running water from a newly-created waterfall in the centre of the park.
Work is now complete on the stunning new feature - the first of its kind in the borough - near the tennis courts as part of the ongoing programme of improvements to parks across the borough.
Created from an existing rockery and other hard landscaping materials, the 10-metre long waterfall and small feature bridge over the water will be illuminated at night to provide a distinctive focal point.
The area around the waterfall has been planted with rockery plants and new seating will be installed in the near future.
The waterfall is just one of many improvements to the popular park just a short stroll from the town centre. Others include revamping the footpaths near the large London plane tree and the installation of uplighters under several other trees to create an all-year-round attraction and welcoming atmosphere.
Cllr Simon Dudley, Cabinet member for Adult and Community Services, said: "Kidwells Park is a very popular and well used open space, and provides a real oasis so close to Maidenhead town centre.
"By making these improvements and introducing this eye-catching new feature we have hopefully created an even more appealing and welcoming park for people to enjoy and be proud of - as well as to feel safe in at any time of the day."
The work at Kidwells cost £29,000, paid for by Section 106 developer contributions from the new Kidwells housing scheme.
Improvements to other borough parks include a new fountain at The Goswells in Windsor, the refurbishment of the Maudsley memorial fountain and landscape improvements to Ray Mill lsland.
