Part of Drift Road between Ascot Road and Fifield Lane will be closed from 7am on Saturday 27 October to 5am on Monday 5 November to allow for safety improvements to the Chawridge Bourne Bridge.
A structural assessment of the existing bridge carrying Drift Road over the Bourne revealed it to be under strength. Rather than imposing a weight limit on the route, the bridge deck is to be replaced with a new precast concrete deck suitable for all vehicles.
This work will require a week-long road closure between the junctions with the A330 Ascot Road and Fifield Lane. The closure has been timed to coincide with the end of the harvest and the autumn half term when traffic will be lighter causing less disruption along the diversion route which includes the A330 Ascot Road, B3024 Forest Green Road and Fifield Lane.
Access to all properties will be maintained throughout the works. However the bridge will be completely closed to all traffic including cyclists and pedestrians during the first week of the works. Single-way traffic, controlled by temporary traffic signals, may also be required up to and including 9 November.
Residents of Drift Road and local farmers have been informed by letter about the closure.
