New 'one-stop' web address for borough volunteers

Volunteering in the Royal borough has been given a boost with the launch of a new web address that provides a 'one-stop shop' for information and opportunities.

The address - www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/volunteering.htm - is a council Big Society initiative that aims to help break down the barriers that can stop people volunteering in their communities.

Cllr Christine Bateson, Cabinet Member for Planning and Partnerships, said: "Volunteers are the backbone of our community and we want to do everything we can to make it as easy as possible for people to get involved.

"The web address is a central route for people who are interested in offering their time and skills to help others and features a simple online application form, up-to-date information links to helpful local and national organisations, such as Windsor and Maidenhead Voluntary Action. It really is an easy way to join the thousands of volunteers already working in the borough."

Work is ongoing to develop the web so that it can offer evolving guidance and networking opportunities for volunteers.

The council itself is keen to encourage volunteers for many of its own services, including libraries, the new Windsor & Royal Borough Museum, Adopt-a-Street and other community safety and clean-up projects.

Royal Borough residents are encouraged to visit www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/volunteering.htm and find out how they can volunteer to help their community.
