Alleyway graffiti gets the brush-off

The Royal Borough's Community Safety and Streetcare teams will next week join forces with local ward councillors and members of the Boyn Hill, Cox Green and Woodlands Park Neighbourhood Action Group to give graffiti the brush-off in a well-used Maidenhead alleyway.

Thanks to the vigilance of Community Warden Grant Hing - who "just wanted to make it look better" - the graffiti will be removed from the alleyway between Grenfell Road and Kings Grove at 2pm on Wednesday 19 October.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Community Safety, said: "It is disappointing that we need to do this and remove the unsightly graffiti scrawled by people who clearly have no regard for their local environment. Graffiti is criminal damage and will not be tolerated!

"We are hoping that local residents will come along on the day to help and make this a perfect example of the Big Society in action."

Brian Martin, Community Safety Manager, said: "I am pleased that once again the community wardens have taken the initiative and arranged this graffiti clean-up.

"Graffiti is wanton vandalism and we will do everything in our power to remove it and identify and deal robustly with the offenders."
