The new food waste caddies being distributed to Royal Borough households this month will be one of the main features at a special waste open day in Maidenhead on Saturday (22 September).
Residents are invited to turn up any time between 10am and 3pm and find out all about the caddies as well as the council's waste transfer station, household waste recycling centre and vehicle workshop off Stafferton Way.
The event, which will be attended by the Mayor, Cllr Colin Rayner, has been organised by the council's recycling and waste management services provider, Veolia.
Activities include:
• a chance to hear and ask questions about the new food waste collection service and caddies
• tours of the facility to see what happens to waste and recycling once it has been collected
• a charity car wash by Veolia staff in aid of Thames Hospicecare - this will also be held at the same venue, same time, on Sunday (23 September).
Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, who will be visiting the event, said: "This is a timely opportunity for residents to discover the benefits and practical details about our new food waste collection service which starts the week beginning Monday 8 October."
Jason Eldridge, Veolia's contract manager in the Royal Borough, added: "Visitors will be able to see all the different processes that take place at the site and gain a greater understanding of what happens to their waste and recycling after it is taken away from their properties."
