Badnell's Pit - end in sight for remediation work

The end is in sight on the remediation phase of work at Badnell's Pit in Blackamoor Lane, Maidenhead.

Members of the Royal Borough's Cabinet heard last night (Thursday) that remediation of the site is scheduled to be completed in early October, followed by a period of site monitoring by contractors RSK as the infrastructure of the site is removed.

The site is expected to be fully decommissioned by Christmas ahead of the start of work in the spring on the Shanly's housing development of 400-plus homes.

Cllr Christine Bateson, Cabinet Member for Planning and Partnerships, said: "Residents will continue to see lorry movements on and off the site in the coming weeks as lorries bring in clean material to complete the backfilling of the excavated areas and remove equipment, huts and the lagoons from the site.

"I would like to thank residents living near the site - and in particular members of the Badnell's Pit Residents Monitoring Group - for their patience while this phase of the redevelopment of the site has been going on.

"I would also like to thank contractors McArdle who have set a very high standard of work during the year-long remediation of the site and have worked closely with the Council to minimise disruption and protect the health and safety of residents as far as possible."

Members heard that only eight complaints were recorded about operations on site from July to September - ranging from concerns about odours to noise from lorries' reversing bleepers and lorries queueing to get onto the site.

All had been addressed and work has now been completed on those areas of the site which gave rise to the concerns.

The Residents Monitoring Group - which held its last meeting last week - is due to decide this week how it wants to spend the £7,000 donated by contractors McArdle to compensate residents for inconvenience during the remediation phase.
