Keeping the burglars out as the days get shorter

Buoyed by the success of their summer roadshows, the Royal Borough's community safety partnership, together with Thames Valley Police, is hosting a series of autumn burglary prevention roadshows starting this week.

The first of the six roadshows to be held during September and October will be on Wednesday (12 September) at Old Windsor Day Centre, Straight Road, Old Windsor, between 2 and 5pm.

The following five roadshows will be held on:

  • Thursday 20 September, 5 to 7pm, Eton Wick Football Club car park, Haywards Mead, Eton Wick
  • Thursday 27 September, 2 to 5pm , Tesco, Horton Road, Datchet
  • Monday 8 October, 12noon to 2pm, Waitrose, King Edward Court, Windsor
  • Monday 22 October, 3 to 5pm, Waitrose, Windsor
  • Tuesday 23 October, 9am to 12noon, Old Windsor - St Lukes Road shopping parade.

The roadshows will be staffed by community wardens, police community support officers and members of the community safety team, and will provide residents with hints and tips on keeping their houses, garages and sheds a 'Burglar Bill' free zone. Also available will be examples of locks, information leaflets and personal safety advice.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member with responsibility for community safety, said: "The summer roadshows were very popular and attracted considerable interest from residents.

"The shorter autumn days and the clocks going back at the end of October can provide greater opportunities for the would-be thief. Do take the opportunity to go along to a roadshow in your area - I guarantee you will pick up some really good tips to help make your home more secure.

"The psychological effects of burglary can affect the victim for years following the crime so anything we can do in partnership with the police to inform and raise awareness is for the good."

Further roadshows will be held during November and December and the details will be published nearer the time. Details of the roadshows and crime reduction advice is available on the community safety website, www.rbwmsafety4all.org.uk
