Ollie shows can-Do attitude as he wins Mayor's competition

The Royal Borough pupil who came up with the winning name for the Mayor's innovative charity fundraising scheme - Do-eat then Do-nate - has been announced as 12-year-old Ollie Chell, a Year 8 pupil at Charters School.

Royal Borough schoolchildren were invited to come up with a catchy title for the initiative which aims to encourage restaurants to support one of Mayor Cllr Asghar Majeed's designated charities.

Ollie's suggestion - entered in a competition initiated by the Mayor, and selected by Maidenhead MP and Home Secretary Theresa May - won him a book token.

Cllr Majeed congratulated Ollie and presented him with the token at a reception in Windsor's Guildhall last night (Tuesday). He also presented a book token to 18-year-old East Berkshire College student Rafal Zyzycz, winner of a competition to design a trophy which will be awarded to the restaurant which raises the most money over his mayoral year (2011-12).

Restaurants and businesses taking part in the charity initiative were presented with certificates which can be displayed on their premises.

Cllr Majeed said: "Well done and thanks to both Ollie and Rafal from me and the Mayoress, my sister Naheed Majeed.

"Already diners at participating restaurants are taking the opportunity to support the scheme and give as much or as little as they wish, knowing that every penny of their contribution will go to a local charity."

So far more than 40 restaurants and businesses have signed up to the scheme. Ideas to raise funds include a Mayor's charity 'dish of the day', a special collecting tin on display in the restaurant, voluntary donations and a one-off fundraising event.

Businesses are still welcome to join the scheme - contact the Mayor's Secretary on 01628 796223 or email mayors.parlour@rbwm.gov.uk for further information.
