Hurrah, hurray! Jolly fine day for an Eton clean up

Eton and Eton Wick will benefit from a community clean-up on Friday 1 October. The clean-up is the latest project for the Eton and Eton Wick neighbourhood action group which has environmental issues as one of its three priorities.

The clean-up kicks off at 10am at Meadow Lane when residents can join Royal Borough community wardens, borough streetcare officers, police officers and police community support officers to remove graffiti and bag up litter.

Cllr Colin Rayner, lead member for community safety, said: "We have held many community clean-ups over the last two years and they are a great way to show partnership working and the Big Society in action. I am delighted that another neighbourhood action group has organised a clean-up. Community involvement is key to making an area safer for all to enjoy.

"We all have a responsibility for our local environment and every day when we are out and about we can do our bit by putting our litter in the bin or taking it home. If we drive away litter and graffiti we could also drive away crime and disorder. A clean place is a safe place.

"We want to make sure that we support our residents who suffer from anti-social behaviour and ensure that graffiti and litter are tackled promptly. The council takes a zero tolerance attitude to such activity and the community wardens and Thames Valley Police work together to deal effectively with these issues. We will not allow the actions of a small minority to ruin the lives of the majority of law-abiding residents."

Among other areas which have enjoyed community clean-ups are: Bouldish Farm Estate, Ascot, Smiths Lane, Dedworth and Shifford Crescent, Maidenhead.
