The Gullet footpath in Ludlow Road, Maidenhead, is the latest area of the borough to enjoy a community clean-up organised by Nacro, the crime reduction charity.
Yesterday (Monday 5 September), members of the Royal Borough's community safety partnership joined forces with young volunteers and Nacro staff to tidy up the widely used footpath.
The young people, who are currently not in education, employment or training (NEET) are studying for a volunteering qualification with Nacro and the borough was approached by Nacro to help facilitate this part of their training.
Cllr Phill Bicknell, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Community Safety, said: "Clean-ups are a great way to instill pride in the local community - and this latest one was no exception.
"Oldfield and Bray NAG are always keen to involve members of the local community in addressing the problem of litter in their area.
"I was delighted that Nacro approached us and that we were able to provide this opportunity for them to do positive work in the community. I hope that the young people who helped us gained a greater feel for the importance of volunteering and gave them the opportunity to continue to develop the life skills they need to realise their potential. I'd like to say a big thank you to them for the work they did."
Clare Fuller, European Social Fund Mentor, said: "Nacro has enjoyed working with the young people and other volunteers to tidy up this popular footpath. The project has not only greatly improved this area but it is also a key part of the young people's training for valuable qualifications."
