Residents of all ages are invited to join in the celebrations as Cox Green Leisure Centre is officially opened this Sunday, 26 September.
The ribbon will be cut by Cllr Simon Dudley, lead member for adult and community services, at 1pm.
Between 12noon and 3pm there will be sports, competitions, bouncy castle, kiddy karts, climbing wall, have-a-go sessions and lots more at the venue adjacent to the community centre in Highfield Lane and linking to the existing Cox Green School sports hall.
Visitors will also be able to view facilities in the new building, including a fully-staffed 42-station BodyZone gym (which will be open five nights a week, with weekend openings also available) first floor multi-purpose dance studio/media capture room, changing rooms and specialist hygiene room to support severely physically disabled people who may be visiting the site or using the adjacent community centre.
Existing facilities have been refurbished so that internal and external sports facilities available for community use in the evenings, at weekends and during school holidays also include:
• a floodlit all-weather pitch
• the existing Cox Green School sports hall, which caters for five-a-side football, basketball, badminton, climbing wall
• upgraded school grass pitches, tennis courts, cricket nets and long jump pit
• school changing rooms and toilets now open for evening and weekend use
• gymnasium for trampolining, gymnastics, aerobics (also available for hire)
• three outdoor floodlit tennis/netball/football courts.
Cllr Dudley said: "It would be great to see the entire community turn out for Sunday's event as this fantastic venue has been designed for the use of residents of all ages and physical abilities.
"And being funded by developer contributions, it has been provided at no capital cost to borough council taxpayers."
