The allegations of child abuse involving a teaching assistant at one of the Royal Borough's schools have provoked understandable concerns from parents in the Broom Farm area of Windsor. The charges do not relate in any way to the school.
We want to reassure parents that the protection and wellbeing of their children are always of paramount importance.
The headteacher has written today (Friday 2 September) to all parents and carers to underline that the charges do not relate to the school and there is currently no evidence to suggest that their children are - or have been - at risk.
We appreciate that some people may have concerns and we are working closely with the school to ensure that it will open as usual next week after the summer break and that there will be support systems in place for pupils, parents and staff.
We are helping the school go through the necessary legal procedures with regard to the teaching assistant's employment.
We are working closely with the police as they investigate these sensitive and serious charges. We know that some residents have been frustrated by a perceived lack of information. However we are trying to balance the competing demands of keeping local people informed, protecting the interests of the alleged victim and ensuring we do not compromise the police investigation by commenting on a matter which is sub judice. As a result, we can make no further comment at this time.
