Still time to nominate your volunteering heroes

The Royal Borough is reminding residents that there's still time to nominate their council volunteering hero or heroine as part of the council's first volunteer awards scheme.

Cllr Christine Bateson, cabinet member for planning and participation, said: "We have received a good number of nominations but we know there are more people who deserve to be put forward for an award.

"These council volunteering awards are a public way of thanking the many exceptional people who give their time to help council services and projects run smoothly. There is an army of volunteers who deserve recognition. I am sure you know someone in the community who is doing their bit so don't hesitate - get those nominations in!"

Residents are urged to nominate in the following seven categories:

  • Adopt-a-Street - (schools, businesses, community and individual)
  • community project
  • community safety - (individual and group)
  • libraries
  • museum
  • school governor
  • young volunteer.

For an application form or guidelines on how to nominate someone for an award, call Deb Beasley, community and voluntary sector officer, on 01628 796100 or email rbwmawards@rbwm.gov.uk

Alternatively visit http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/volunteering_awards.htm

The closing date for nominations is Friday 24 August. The winners will be announced at the Volunteering Awards ceremony on Thursday 20 September where they will receive an engraved glass trophy and certificate.
