Motorists can keep their eyes on the road - via the web

A handy new online feature on the council's website offers motorists the chance to see how busy traffic is at 20 key locations in the Royal Borough before they even leave the house.

New CCTV traffic cameras which were installed in the run-up to the Olympics are all fully operational and the images they take are available to view on the website.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, said: "We were well prepared for the Olympic traffic which has actually turned out to be better than expected.

"The legacy benefit however is a great tool for anyone planning to travel through these traffic hot spots and will allow motorists to check for possible traffic hold-ups."

At present the camera image refreshes every 20 minutes with the highways team looking to improve this rate in the near future.

To view the images go to www.rbwm.gov.uk/travel/map.aspx, click on 'CCTV' and choose from the 20 camera sites.
