GCSE results on the up in Royal Borough

Hard-working Royal Borough GCSE students have notched up another year of excellent exam results.

Results released yesterday (Thursday 25 August) show that:

• the percentage of students gaining five or more A* to C grades has soared from 81% in 2010 to 86% this year
• the percentage of students gaining five or more A * to Cs (including English and Maths) remains the same as last year at 64%, well above the national average.

This week's results follow last week's A-level successes which also showed significant increases in the number of students achieving the higher A* to C grades.

Cllr Eileen Quick, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: "Another brilliant set of exam results - our students should be very proud of themselves and their hard work.

"I would like to congratulate them all and thank their teachers and families for their support and help, especially during the particularly stressful last few weeks while waiting for results.

"It is extremely encouraging to see our students continuing to demonstrate their determination and dedication and to get the results they deserve."

The figures are provisional at this stage - final figures will be available later in the autumn.
