Do-eat then do-nate

The Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Asghar Majeed and his sister, Miss Naheed Majeed, hope to raise many funds for local charities. One of the ways they plan to do this is by enlisting the support of local restaurants/businesses and their customers. The scheme is easy and straight forward and has the potential to benefit everyone involved.

How the Scheme works

• Restaurants/businesses choose the local charity they wish to support from the Mayor's list.
• The Mayor's Office will make the initial introduction between the restaurant/business and charity and they can then work together to decide the best way forward for them. There are lots of ideas of how the initiative can work, for example:-
  • voluntary donation when the diner pays their bill,
  • a specific charity "dish" on the menu where a percentage of the price is donated,
  • having a collecting tin,
  • holding regular charity days or special events throughout the year.
• The Mayor will present participating restaurants/businesses with a certificate which they can display.
• The local press will regularly promote the initiatve - this has the advertising benefit of attracting new customers to eat locally as well as supporting local charities.
• The restaurant/business will update the Mayor's Office and the Charity on how much has been raised so that progress can be tracked and a grand total announced at the end of the mayoral year and prize presented to the restaurant who has raised the most money.
