Under the Local Authorities (Members Allowances)(England) Regulations 2003, the Council is required to establish and maintain an Independent Remuneration Panel. The purpose of the Panel is to review the existing Scheme of Allowances, including the Basic Allowance (paid to every Member), Special Responsibility Allowances (paid to those Members who undertake the heaviest workloads and who play leading roles in the affairs of the Council) and to make recommendations to the Council on the appropriate level of payments to be made in the future.
The Royal Borough is seeking to appoint members to its Independent Remuneration Panel. We are looking for someone who lives or works in the Borough and is able to make informed judgements based upon complex information and who will be available to attend and contribute to meetings. Ideally, but not necessarily, you should have experience of sitting on a committee, understand local authority structures and have some experience of setting remuneration levels in complex organisations.
The role will entail attending a briefing/training session and then one or two meetings per year together with a degree of telephone and email contact in order to finalise reports.
The appointment is not open to elected members of any local authority and anyone who would not fulfil the eligibility criteria for elected local authority members.
