Democratic Services

Officers of the Democratic Services section arrange and support official meetings of the Council, including the compilation of agendas, provision of advice on procedural matters at meetings and the preparation of minutes. This is undertaken in accordance with the Council's constitution and relevant statutory deadlines.

The section also provides support, training and development for Members of the Council and supports communication and consultation with the Town and Parish Councils.

The Section is also responsible for:-

• the administration of the Council's Representatives on Outside Bodies
• arranging and servicing Appeals, Licensing and Regulatory Hearings
• Members' Allowances and Claims for Expenses
• organising Civic and Ceremonial Functions for the Mayor 
• the receipt and opening of Tenders (above a certain amount) for Council Contracts
• the registration of Members' Interest 
• scrutiny Co-ordination
• general support of Elected Members of the Council
