Royal Borough Coat of Arms

The Armorial Bearings of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead

Royal Borough Coat of Arms

Shield

This consists of the principal elements of the armorial bearings of the former Royal Borough of New Windsor and the former Borough of Maidenhead which are dovetailed together. This dovetailing signifies the inseparable union of the two formerly independent councils - a bond of the strongest kind.

Crest

The castle on a grassy hillock symbolises Windsor Castle's raised location in the town. The oak sprigs and lion's face represent the forests of Windsor and the Royal Heraldic lions.

Supporters

The white horse relates to Berkshire's white horse and the swan to Buckinghamshire (the areas of Eton, Eton Wick, Datchet, Horton and Wraysbury were formerely in our neighbouring county).

Motto

'In Unity Happiness' (or in Latin - 'In Unitate Felicitates') speaks of hopes for the future.
