Paralympic Games

After the huge success of the London 2012 Olympic rowing and canoe sprint events at Eton Dorney the focus shifts to the Paralympic Games and three days of events from Friday 31 August to Sunday 2 September.

With access arrangements at the northern entrance there will be a much reduced impact on the Royal Borough as the Windsor Racecourse transport hub - so vital for the Olympic games - will not be in use.

The following information may be helpful:

  • Access for all spectators, athletes and officials is from Court Lane/Marsh Lane.
  • Do not drive to the venue - there is no parking provision there and it is vital to keep the A4 and other local roads moving.
  • The designated spectator rail stations are Slough and Windsor & Eton Riverside (free shuttle buses will be provided).
  • Park and ride facilities will operate from Upton Court, Slough, and Stafferton Way, Maidenhead.
  • Spectator numbers are expected to be around 12,000 a day (compared to the 20,000 for the Olympics).
  • All the Olympic event day parking zones to the south of the river will be removed, with the exception of those in Eton Wick and at Tithe Barn Drive (off Monkey Island Lane). Residents there will continue to need the special Olympic parking permits issued by the Royal Borough. Further information is available by calling 01628 683800 or by emailing: parking@rbwm.gov.uk
  • There is no designated walking route to the venue.

Waste collections in the Royal Borough will be as normal.

Paralympic Torch Relay - line the streets to cheer on the Flame

Everyone who was enthused by the Olympic Games is being urged to line the streets to support the Paralympic Torch Relay as it makes its way from Stoke Mandeville to London.

The 24-hour journey starts at 8pm on Tuesday 28 August from the Stoke Mandeville Stadium - birthplace of the Paralympic Movement - and travel through Aylesbury, Weston Turville and Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire on its way to the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games the following evening.

Some 116 teams of five Torchbearers will carry the Flame along the 92-mile route from Stoke Mandeville to the Stratford Park where the Relay will conclude at around 10pm on Wednesday 29 August.

The Torch Relay route is available at www.london2012.com/paralympictorchrelay. The map gives street-by-street details and estimated times for when the Flame will be there.

The teams of Torchbearers confirmed to carry the Paralympic Flame include those that were successful through the public nomination processes run by the Presenting Partners, BT, Lloyds TSB and Sainsbury's. Each Torchbearer will wear a white and blue uniform designed by adidas.

People are also invited to make and light a lantern in celebration of the Torchbearers to help light their way along the route. See www.london2012.com/join-in/local-leaders/light-a-lantern/ for more details.
