Glucose is a blood sugar and is the body's main source of energy. It is stored in the liver and muscles in the form of Glycogen. Blood sugar levels are controlled by the hormone Insulin, which is produced in the pancreas.
If blood glucose levels get out of control you are at risk of developing Diabetes Type II.
Physical activity can help maintain good blood glucose levels. Your glucose level should ideally be between 4-7mmol. If levels are severely elevated above 8mmol consistently then there is a risk of developing diabetes.
Both the cholesterol and glucose tests are carried out by making a small pin prick to the finger and taking a small amount of blood. This is placed onto a strip and placed into a machine for analysing. The tests only take a few minutes, and helps identify if there is a problem with your glucose level. If a problem is identified we would then refer you to your GP for further tests for illnesses such as Diabetes.
