At any of three libraries; for the northern part of the Borough, the Nicholson Local Studies Room at Maidenhead Library provides access to 1,800 books on local and family history, 1,000 historical maps around Cookham, Hurley and Maidenhead.
We have parish register transcripts for much of Berkshire, local historical electoral registers, Kelly's Directories from the Victorian era onwards, The Maidenhead Advertiser on microfilm from 1870 onwards and 2,000 historical photographs of the local area, people and events.
Windsor Library has a smaller collection of similar items for the Windsor area including The Windsor & Eton Express on microfilm and information on the Castle and the Royal Family. Ascot Library hosts a smaller collection for the Ascot Sunninghill and Sunningdale area, with not so many books, but with plenty of maps and cuttings.
Also, the Berkshire Record Office in Reading holds documents about the Borough's history from the twelfth century to the present day. These include records from parishes, local government, courts, local families and organisations. Some items are kept on microfilm.
