Bookstart

Bookstart bear logoBookstart is a national programme that gives free books to parents and carers to encourage them to enjoy books with children from as early an age as possible.

There are three lovely Bookstart packs available free to help you and your baby discover books and the joys of reading.


Bookstart Packs

Bookstart packs are FREE and are available to all children in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM).


Bookstart Packs for Babies

All babies born in the UK are entitled to their first Bookstart pack Bookstart packwhich contains:
  • 2 specially selected sturdy board books to share with your baby in a good quality cotton shoulder bag
  • Laminated nursery rhymes sheet which doubles as a placemat
  • Advice and information on chosing and sharing books with your baby

Bookstart Plus packs

When your child is between 12 months and 36 months they are entitled to their Bookstart Plus pack.

This contains: Bookstart Plus pack

  • 2 sturdy books aimed at toddlers in a bright coloured nylon bookbag
  • Crayons and a scribbler pad
  • Stickers and a colourful number wall freize
  • Information on choosing books for and enjoying reading with this age group

My Bookstart Treasure Chest

At three your child will receive a Treasure Chest filled with goodies. Bookstart Treasure Box pack

  • A sturdy Treasure Box with a secret compartment containing two fantastic picture books
  • A pack of coloured pencils, a pencil sharpener and an A4 colouring book
  • Information on choosing books for and enjoying reading with this age group

How to claim your FREE Bookstart pack

  • Baby Bookstart - your health visitor will deliver your first Bookstart pack to you during your initial contact after your baby's birth.
  • Bookstart Plus - You can claim your pack at any time at one of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead libraries or at one of our specific Rhymetime sessions.
  • My Bookstart Treasure Chest - this will be delivered via your child's nursery or early years setting once they have turned three.
