Garden in Bloom Awards

Garden in Aldebury Road, MaidenheadMr & Mrs James, Overall Borough Winner

Garden in Queens Road, Windsor

2008 was another challenging year for the borough's gardeners as we experienced one of the wettest August in years.  However, yet again, they proved more than equal to the challenge and we had another fine array of colourful, eye catching gardens.

There was an increase in the number of gardeners growing fruit and vegetables in their front gardens which made for some truly diverse and really interesting gardens.

All this hard work and endeavour was rewarded at the Garden in Bloom awards evening in September.   Winners, Runners Up and Councillors all gathered to celebrate another successful year of the Garden in Bloom Scheme.Ms Black receiving her award

Garden in Bloom starts in May and encourages local people to create lovely front gardens and so to improve the appearance of their local area.  Any private garden, which is visible to passers by, that is from the road or footpath is eligible to enter.  The first stage of judging takes place in June/July and culminates in an awards ceremony held in the autumn.

Commercial Awards

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead supports the national Britain in Bloom Campaign, which acknowledges the contribution that all sectors of the community - public, commercial and private - make to long term improvements to their towns and villages.  These improvements can be floral displays, landscape and environmental improvements.  To add to the Garden in Bloom Scheme we have introduced a commercial awards scheme.

Commercial premises often have a greater impact on peoples' every day lives than private front gardens as commercial premises are often in high profile locations within towns.  The quality of their landscaping can make a huge difference to the 'green' quality of a town.
Of all the commercial premises the local pub often has the most impact.  Whether people visit every day, every week or just during the summer months, floral decorations/good landscaping can really enhance a persons visit.

Nominations have now closed for this year.
