What the Royal Borough has to offer

Windsor Castle

What's life like in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead? Not something that can be easily summed up when you consider what makes it such a diverse area. So until you experience it by living and working here, here's some essential information we're sure you'll want to know.

Location and Transport

The Borough is situated in the heart of the Thames Valley, with easy access to the rest of the country and major airports including Heathrow, Stanstead and Gatwick. It's well served by road (M4 and M40) and rail links (there's a mainline to Paddington, London). The South West of England is only three hours away by car, while central London is just 35 minutes by rail.

Housing

There's a wide range of residential properties, including modern and character homes in both urban and rural locations. Although property prices within the Borough are high, cheaper property is accessible to the west and in surrounding areas.

Education

All senior schools are fully comprehensive, and while Windsor operates a three-tier system of first, middle and upper schools, Maidenhead has primary and secondary education. There's also a wide range of fee-paying schools, including the famous Eton College. You'll find a variety of pre-school facilities, childminders, private and state nurseries and mother and toddler groups, plus an extensive programme of adult education courses, including vocational and non-vocational training.

Leisure

The Borough has it all - Windsor Castle, Legoland, River Thames boat trips, Council-run leisure centres and Private sports clubs. In fact, tourism is key for us - whether that's enjoying a day out at Ascot race course or exploring our vision for the 2012 Olympics (and beyond). We can offer an experience that's sure to suit everyone.

We also have 39 parks, 350 acres of open space, 11 golf courses, three bowling greens, and two racecourses. Modern shopping facilities are excellent, as are Eton's famous antique and curiosity shops. The Theatre Royal in Windsor puts on professional performances of plays, musicals, concerts and comedy, and other venues in nearby Reading and High Wycombe offer a breadth of theatrical and entertainment experiences.

There are three large cinema complexes only a short drive away, and no end of choice if you like to eat out - including internationally acclaimed restaurants and hotels, family restaurants and country pubs offering food from all over the world.
