Access to Information - Your Right to Know

The Freedom of Information Act 2000, Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Data Protection Act 1998 are all Acts of Parliament that allow the public access to information held by the Council.

Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI)

You have the right to request access to any information held by the Council. Your request must be made in writing and you will receive the information (unless an exemption applies) within 20 working days.

Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR)

You have a right to request access to any information held by the Council that is related in any way to the elements (fire, water, air & land).

Information requested under EIR does not need to be in the form of a written request but can be requested verbally by calling our Information Management team on 01628 796029. However we recommend that you write or email with a request so that you have your own record of it.

You will receive the information (unless an exception applies) within 20 working days.

Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA)

We process personal data in accordance with the principles of the Data Protection Act. You have the right to request a copy of any personal information we hold about you.

Your request must be made in writing. Once our preliminary procedures regarding authenticating identity and clearing any fees payable have been completed, you will receive the information (unless an exemption applies) within 40 calendar days.
