Bullying Advice for Parents and Carers

Anti-Bullying Week

  • Why Me

If you have concerns about bullying, call the advice line in confidence on 01628 685609 Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm.

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is working closely with schools to help support students and their parents or carers in identifying and addressing bullying. By working together we aim to create a protective environment, to recognise bullying and to give advice on what you can do if you have any concerns. We are determined to stop bullying and the unhappiness and stress it causes.

Children and young people learn best when they feel safe and happy. Occasionally children may be bullied at school, in the street or at home. The effects of bullying can be serious, upsetting and long-lasting.

Bullying is behaviour by an individual or group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group physically or emotionally.

Signs that a child may be being bullied include:

  • being frightened to walk to and from school
  • being unwilling to go to school
  • beginning to do poorly in their work
  • becoming withdrawn
  • starting to stammer
  • continually losing their pocket or lunch money
  • bed wetting

The four main types of bullying are:

  • Physical (for example hitting, kicking, stealing)
  • Verbal (for example name-calling, hurtful remarks)
  • Indirect (for example by spreading rumours, stopping someone from joining a social group)
  • Cyberbullying (for example bullying by text, e-mail or on the internet)

The Helpline is for guidance, practical tips and impartial advice - a listening ear to encourage open and honest discussions about your expectations. We hope to help you resolve any issues concerning bullying as quickly as possible.
