In accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983, the Council has a duty to divide the Royal Borough into polling districts and to designate a polling place for each district. It also has a duty to keep these arrangements under review. Section 16 of the Electoral Administration Act 2006 introduced a number of changes to the 1983 Act in respect of the way reviews must be undertaken, the most significant change being that the Council must conduct a full review of its polling places every four years. However, this does not prevent changes being made at any time before the next full review.
The Council has to give Notice that a review is to take place and to invite any interested bodies, local community groups, political groups and electors to make comments on any changes that they wish to be considered. The Council particularly welcomes the views from persons who may have particular expertise in relation to access to premises or facilities for persons who have different forms of disability.
Any representations and comments should be submitted by 16 November 2011.
It is intended that the current polling arrangements will be maintained and changes will only be proposed where particular circumstances require. However, any alternative polling arrangements that any person or organisation feel would be more appropriate will be given due consideration.
Comments do not have to be restricted to any changes being proposed, comments that support current arrangements are welcome to ensure that there is a balance of opinion.
Although the review is of polling districts and polling places it is accepted that polling stations are linked to the review and comments regarding the stations currently used and/or any suggested alternatives are also welcome.
Please Note: Pursuant to the Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places (Parliamentary Elections) Regulations 2006, any submission made and any correspondance received will be published and will be open for public inspection on completion of the review.
Representations should be sent to the Returning Officer:
