The UK Parliamentary General Election will be held on Thursday 6 May 2010.
UK Parliamentary elections are run on UK parliamentary constituency boundaries and this means that for this election part of Wokingham Borough Council will be adopted to complete the Parliamentary Constituency of Maidenhead and Part of Bracknell and Slough Borough Councils will be adopted to complete the Windsor Parliamentary Constituency.
The Maidenhead and Windsor Parliamentary Constituencies will both elect 1 Member of Parliament (MP) to sit in the House of Commons using the traditional first past the post system with the candidate with the most votes becoming the MP for the constituency.
To vote in the UK General Election, your name must be on the electoral register. The Deadline for the receipt of new applications to be entered on the Register of Elections was Tuesday 20 April. Persons submitting applications after this date will not be able to vote at the Parliamentary Elections on 6th May 2010.
Electors who wish to vote by post are required to provide personal identifiers (i.e. their date of birth and a specimen of their signature) on their postal vote application form. Each time you vote by post, your signature and date of birth provided on the postal voting statement will be checked against these identifiers to ensure your postal vote remains secure.
The deadline for the receipt of postal vote application forms was 5.00pm on Tuesday 20 April 2010. Any person submitting an application form after that date will not be issued with a Postal Vote for the Parliamentary election on 6 May 2010.
If you are unable to vote at the polling station and you wish someone to vote on your behalf you can apply to vote by Proxy. An application form to vote by Proxy is available for download from the Electoral Commission Website. This should be returned to Electoral Services at the address below. The deadline for the receipt of new applications to vote by Proxy is 5.00pm on Tuesday 27 April 2010.
