The Returning Officer appoints around 500 people to help run the elections held within the Royal Borough. These people help with tasks such as helping with postal votes, working at the polling stations and counting the votes.

Applications are open to both council employees and members of the public. Section 8 of the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 requires all potential employees to provide documentary evidence to confirm their eligibility to work in the UK. Before you can be employed at elections we need to have sight of a valid passport or a full birth certificate, plus Proof of National Insurance number (e.g. P60, P45, payslip etc.) We can only accept original documents.
We can only accept applications from persons who are not connected to, nor will assist any political party or candidate at an election. Person appointed to work at a polling station or at the count must accept that they are consenting to work in excess of the normal maximum working hours.
