Food Safety
Aim: "To ensure high standards of food hygiene and safety in the
Borough, and to help prevent food poisoning."
The Commercial Services Team has a key responsibility for safeguarding the
safety of food produced or sold in the Borough and for enforcing the
legislation governing food hygiene.
Food Safety Work includes:
- Registering of food premises
- Inspecting and auditing of some 1500 food premises
- Auditing of outdoor events
- Investigating complaints about food safety and food premises
- Advising food businesses and the public on food safety matters
- Sampling various food products for bacterial quality
- Producing guidance manuals, advice leaflets, etc.
