Food Safety

Aim: "To ensure high standards of food hygiene and safety in the Borough, and to help prevent food poisoning."

The Commercial Services Team has a key responsibility for safeguarding the safety of food produced or sold in the Borough and for enforcing the legislation governing food hygiene.

Food Safety Work includes:

  • Registering of food premises
  • Inspecting and auditing of some 1500 food premises
  • Auditing of outdoor events
  • Investigating complaints about food safety and food premises
  • Advising food businesses and the public on food safety matters
  • Sampling various food products for bacterial quality
  • Producing guidance manuals, advice leaflets, etc.
