Motor Salvage Operators

The Motor Salvage Operators Regulations 2002 have come into force due to the lack of effective regulation and policing of the motor salvage industry resulting in many opportunities for unscrupulous traders to dispose of stolen vehicles. It is hoped it will reduce the opportunities for car thieves to profit and prevent an estimated 32,000 fewer vehicles being stolen every year.

As part of these regulations the local authority is reponsible for maintaining a register of motor salvage operators. Application forms are available and a fee of £40 is currently required. The registration is valid for three years.
