The Royal Borough and other members of the 2M group of local
authorities opposed to Heathrow expansion have this week published
plans for a high-speed rail network which could reduce the need for
domestic and short-haul flights.

Cllr David Burbage, leader of the Royal Borough, has called on
transport secretary Ruth Kelly to clarify the government's attitude
to aircraft noise after a court ruled that she was under no obligation
to improve conditions for residents woken up by early morning arrivals
at Heathrow.

The Royal Borough is one of a group of councils going to the High Court
in a bid to win a reduction in the number of aircraft allowed to arrive
at Heathrow before 6am.
