Aim: "To ensure the quality of air, land and water within the Borough is within established environmental guidelines and health criteria". 

Environmental protection embraces a wide range of activities.

These include:

• Investigating complaints relating to statutory nuisance or the pollution of air and land.
• Responding and investigating complaints about noise.
• Dealing with contaminated land enquiries.
• Monitoring of air quality and noise throughout the Borough.
• Monitoring and sampling radiation levels.
• Asbestos advice service. 
• Authorising businesses that operate certain potentially polluting processes.
• Involvement in the Development Control (Planning) process.
• Monitoring aircraft noise and complaints. 
• Enforcing appropriate legislation. 
• Scrutinising applications for Public Entertainment Licences.
