Dog Warden Service

Our work on animal welfare is undertaken by SDK Environmental Ltd. The services include:

  • Dealing with stray dogs.

  • Investigating complaints such as barking dog nuisance and fouling.

  • Park patrols.

  • Enforcement of dog fouling legislation.

  • Administering the Council's' Good Dog Campaign to encourage responsible dog ownership.

  • Respond to all complaints as soon as possible but always within 2 working days.

Please Remember
  • It is a legal requirement for you to make sure your dog wears an identity tag when out in a public place.

  • It is an offence to let your dog stray. If a stray dog is caught and we can't trace the owner, we will keep it in boarding kennels for which a fee will be charged + £25 for collection and administration. If your dog is picked up and not claimed within 7 days, you will lose the right to reclaim it, and we will try to re-home it. It is therefore important to ensure that the information in your dog's microchip is the current contact details.

  • If you allow your dog to foul any public place, you can be liable for a 'Fixed Penalty Notice' (£52) to be served on you on the spot, which is a fast-track alternative to prosecution in the Magistrates' Court which carries a maximum fine of £1000
