What We Do

A child's work

As a service we aim to respond effectively to the specific needs of each child and to provide support in a number of different ways.


We work closely with colleagues in schools and with families, linking our work with that of Social Services and Health Authorities.


Our main functions include:

  • Providing a home based education programme for pre-school children who have a diagnosed sensory impairment.
  • Providing a Pre-School Group with opportunities to meet families and children with sensory impairment.
  • Specialist assessment, teaching and advice of individual young people with sensory impairment.
  • Contributing to individualised educational programmes and liaising with Health, LEA's and other professionals.
  • Delivering specialist training to mainstream and special school staff.
  • Provision of specialist teacher support for planning provision and the placement and monitoring of pupils with a sensory impairment.
  • Keeping a resource bank of specialist equipment available for loan to schools.
  • Running joint Community Audiology Clinics.
  • Running joint Community Ophthalmology Clinics.
