Policy Statement - "Developing Inclusive Approaches to Education"
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead aims to raise the standards of attainment for all children, by enhancing the quality of their education, within the context of a highly effective and inclusive education system.
The Royal Borough seeks to promote equality of opportunity and equality of access to the curriculum for all children. All children are entitled to a quality education within their local community, learning alongside their peers, in preparation for fulfilling their potential as adults shaping our society in the future.
The Royal Borough will work towards offering the option of education in a mainstream school to all children whose parents wish this. It regards placement in mainstream school, with appropriate support from specialist services, as part of a continuum of provision for children with special educational needs, and such placement should be considered as the first option.
Recognising the diversity of special educational needs, the Royal Borough will seek to provide a broad continuum of local provision that includes as many of our children as possible.
