The Royal Borough has a statutory duty to ensure that there are sufficient school places in the local authority area to meet the present and future demand for places, and also to ensure that there is diversity in the provision of schools and increased opportunities for parental choice. In meeting these duties the Royal Borough also needs to consider whether there is an appropriate balance between the need to allow for the operation of parental preference and the need to use scarce resources efficiently.
The plan is not intended to show how the borough will meet these duties over the next five years - there are no actions listed here. It does, however, bring together information from a range of sources to set out what issues the borough will face in meeting those duties up to 2012. Thus the plan includes past, present and predicted future pupil numbers on roll, together with information about birth rates, school capacity and new housing.
