New Arrivals
The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service has produced two booklets, Working with New Arrivals in Secondary and Working with New Arrivals in Primary, which are designed to help you with the first few days. There are ideas on how to prepare in advance for the child's arrival, an example of an induction form for background information, tips for supporting him/her in the first few days, types of language activities to offer, example worksheets and assessment forms. Please remember that we would be pleased to help with initial assessments and advice on working with your new arrival and that resources are available on loan from the EMA Centre.
Copies of Working with New Arrivals are available on request from our centre.
