Provide parents of ethnic minority pupils with information, materials and strategies to enable them to support their children's education in collaboration with school.

Home School Liaison Officers undertake home visits on a range of pastoral issues such as school admissions, absences, extended visits to home country, homework, etc., as requested by schools, parents and other educational groups. Visits also arranged in assistance with the school nurse on issues of personal hygiene, etc.

Contacts are developed between schools, colleges, health and religious organisations to develop communication and co-operation between the communities.

Home School Liaison Officers act as interpreters in Annual Review meetings and Case Conferences, to support and increase communication between ethnic minority families and the school.

Assist parents by explaining the processes of SEN assessment procedures, working closely with Parent Partnership and liaising with Educational Psychologists where appropriate.

Provide first language assessment for EAL pupils when required by schools.

Parents are encouraged to join appropriate training courses in the area and support existing ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes.

Home School Liaison Officers also provide and support in-service training on community and race equality issues.

Do contact us if you feel there is an issue we can help you with at our centre.
