Educational Visits

The Royal Borough takes seriously its responsibility in encouraging and providing a safe environment for Off-Site visits for young people under its duty of care. The activities are devised to be challenging, enjoyable educational.

We do not 'remove all risk' rather educate to manage risk, providing life skills for long term safety.

The Off-Site and Hazardous Activities Advisor provides specialist advice, support and monitoring for all school visits.

There is a rolling programme of training for all staff to take visits and each school has an Educational Visits Co-ordinator (EVC) who liases with the Off-Site Advisor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the staffing ratio for an Off-Site Visit?

There are no set ratios, each site visited, ability of group, age of group, level of experience of staff will have an effect on ratios. E.g. 2 staff could take a group of 30 to a museum, but the ratio for walking the same group by the Thames would need to be much higher.

Do teachers have to lead visits?

No, the staff will be anyone who is appropriately trained and able to supervise adequately.

Is there insurance in place?

Yes, any activity that takes place as part of the Borough's activities is insured. There is also additional insurance called 'school journey' which covers such things as replacing staff, covering transport changes, weather cancellations and when abroad, medical expenses.

How do we obtain a medical consent form?
